Job Summary:

The Project Engineer II works under the direct supervision of the Project Manager to complete the mechanical and/or electrical/lighting portion of the Comprehensive Energy Analysis, assists in the design and specification of ECM's, and assists the Construction Manager as assigned throughout the construction period. The PE II shall read, understand, and follow Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) manual. Travel is required for this position, and may be up to 40%.

Primary Responsibilities:


    Surveying (15%)
  • Completely understand all metering and measurement tools used at Company and understand the data provided.
  • Have a working knowledge of identifying different types of HVAC controls systems (EMS).
  • Be proficient at performing lighting and water surveys.
  • Complete an accurate mechanical field survey which includes taking accurate measurements, amp draws, kW readings, fan RPM readings, static pressure, etc.
  • Identify energy savings opportunities under the direction of the Project Manager.
    Analysis and Engineering (50%)
  • Be competent in computer modeling software programs, such as Market Manager, DOE – II, or Trane Trace, and apply them in preparing the CEA.
  • Be competent at performing lighting and water ECM analysis, which includes estimating savings, estimating material and labor costs, and determining the appropriate technologies.
  • Be competent at quantifying energy usage from miscellaneous equipment, such as refrigerators, stoves, TVs, hospital equipment, etc.
  • Be proficient at performing load take-offs from drawings. Prepare the input data for each model for the computer simulation software.
  • With minimal supervision, prepare the lighting specification and design drawings for the lighting and water projects. Work with Company CAD Department and our in-house engineers to develop and produce the specification and drawings.
  • Obtain a solid working knowledge of HVAC systems, which includes the ability to identify different systems and equipment, identifying potential ECM’s, determining how to quantify the potential energy savings.
    Report Writing (25%)
  • Write the data on present facilities (DOP) for the CEA report.
  • Write ECM writeups as requested by the Project Manager.
  • Perform utility bill analysis and complete the utility analysis section. Submit to Project Manager for review and approval.
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills in report writing and correspondence.
  • Manage time between multiple projects to meet deadlines.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by senior team members.
Implementation (10%)
  • Assist during the construction phase of the project by reviewing submittal and change orders, and making recommendations for approval or denial to the Project Manager.
  • Assist in commissioning as requested.

    Required Abilities:

    • Strong personal computing skills that are required for all phases of the job including ECM evaluation and report writing.
    • Competent at lighting and water energy savings calculations, lighting and water material and labor costs, and lighting and water specification preparation.
    • In lieu of the listed lighting skills, HVAC and control skills may be substituted.

    Education/Experience:

    • a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
    • 2 years of related experience, and relevant technical training.
    • Obtaining EIT certification is recommended.

    Any requirement above can be waived with the consent of the Operations Director and the Human Resources Business Partner.
