Job Summary:
The
Project Engineer III works under the direct supervision of the Project Manager to complete the mechanical and/or electrical/lighting portion of the Comprehensive Energy Analysis, assists in the design and specification of ECM's, and assists the Construction Manager as assigned throughout the construction period. The PE III is expected to train other Project Engineers in regard to their duties and responsibilities. The PE III shall read, understand, and follow Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) manual. Travel is required for this position, and may be up to 40%.

Primary Responsibilities:
Surveying (15%)
- Completely understand all metering and measurement tools used at Company and understand the data provided.
- Have a working knowledge of identifying different types of HVAC controls systems (EMS).
- Be proficient at performing lighting and water surveys.
- Complete an accurate mechanical field survey which includes taking accurate measurements, amp draws, kW readings, fan RPM readings, static pressure, etc.
- Have the skills and knowledge necessary to appropriately identify all types of energy conservation opportunities for each project.
Analysis and Engineering(50%)
- Proficient at modeling basic HVAC systems as well as complex HVAC systems, including central plants, co-generation, heat recovery, etc.
- Be competent at performing lighting and water ECM analysis, which includes estimating savings, estimating material and labor costs, and determining the appropriate technologies.
- Be competent at quantifying energy usage from miscellaneous equipment, such as refrigerators, stoves, TVs, hospital equipment, etc.
- Be proficient at performing load take-offs from drawings. Prepare the input data for each model for the computer simulation software.
- With minimal supervision, prepare the lighting specification and design drawings for the lighting and water projects. Work with Company CAD Department and our in-house engineers to develop and produce the specification and drawings.
- Must have a solid working knowledge of HVAC systems, which includes the ability to identify different systems and equipment, identifying potential ECM’s, determining how to quantify the potential energy savings.
- Develop HVAC and EMS engineering designs and specifications under the supervision of the Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer.
- With guidance from the Project Manager, prepare all bid documents and construction documents that, along with the specification and drawings, will comprise the lighting and mechanical construction documents.
- Working with the Project Manager, prepare cost estimates of basic mechanical and controls ECM’s. Obtain contractor quotes for the mechanical and control work, and evaluate the costs.
Report Writing (25%)
- With minimal assistance from the Project Manager, prepare the entire CEA report except for financials and executive summary.
- Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills in report writing and correspondence.
- Manage time between multiple projects to meet deadlines.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by senior team members.
Implementation (10%)
Assist during the construction phase of the project by reviewing submittal and change orders, and making recommendations for approval or denial to the Project Manager.
Be able to lead and direct an EMS commissioning effort.
Required Abilities:
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems, be able to perform HVAC surveys.
- Competent at computer modeling/simulating of building operation.
- Competent at preparing/analyzing cost estimates of mechanical systems.
- In lieu of the listed HVAC skills, lighting/electrical skills may be substituted.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
- 4 years of related experience, and relevant technical training.
- Obtaining a Professional Engineer's license is recommended.
